The Megamall
I've always liked the Mall regardless of the nagging feeling of guilt I have surrounding this. The Mall hasn't been seen as legit in any of my life circumstances but all I had to do was re-imagine the Mall as a box filled with boxes & nothing more or less & it changed permanently in my mind.
Growing up in Oakland I didn't have much exposure to Malls or the generic American experience. When I still lived in the Bay Area I just liked to hang out in Oakland Chinatown & San Francisco Japantown after the decline of Berkeley's Telegraph & San Francisco's Haight street.
In 2019 physical retail feels like a dinosaur but people's need to hang out is the same, even if it is digital.
