DEAD OR ALIVE?
It's funny having grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area & being so exposed to Hi-NRG via the radio station LIVE 105. I ended up listening to a lot of Dead or Alive without the (very gay) context.

The videos didn't played on MTV so I didn't see most of them until the advent of the youtube in 2005. I wasn't shocked but Dead or Alive in context was very different than as the soundtrack of MY life as a 13 year old boy. Anyhow I really dig Pete Burns' style before he became a plastic surgery disaster.
YYou can pretend to see Dead or Alive - Live in Japan!
So enjoy kids!

Too funny. Had a similar experience in the 80’s with another artist. No MTV, the most basic of TV channels, most music sources very mainstream apart from an “import” record store in a back alley of the CBD (where I spent my Saturday mornings as a kid). Pete Shelley…..new age-y/semi punk kind of stuff…….digging it as a kid but not really paying attention to the lyrics, etc, and I was quite…..surprised…..when I finally saw the video for Homosapien. Yeah – definite change of context for that music :)
